Ceramics

These are pieces I was working on in my Introduction to Wheel Throwing class. Some are in-progress shots and some are the finished pieces. I choose a couple of my favorites to spotlight and my final is at the end.

Glazed Cylinders

Stoneware wheel-thrown cylinders, cone 10 fired. I experimented with different heights and tried to get them as straight as possible. I experimented with different glazes to see what colors they would come out being and what color combinations they might be.

Bowls

Stoneware wheel-thrown bowls, cone 10 fired. I experimented with different sizes and shapes when throwing them. Some of them were dipped in slip and the bottoms were trimmed before bisque-firing. I experimented with different glazes and half-dipping the bowls.

Glazed Mugs

Stoneware wheel-thrown mugs with hand-pulled handles, cone 10 fired. The bottoms are trimmed and I experimented with texture and lines on a couple of them before they were bisque-fired. They are hand-dipped in glaze and I also experimented with painting on dip glaze.

Glazed Vases

Stoneware wheel-thrown vases, cone 10 fired. Hand-built and placed vines and flowers. The vines and flowers are painted with underglaze and the inside is dipped glaze poured in then I sprayed them with a clear glaze.

Final ~ Breaking Out

This is my final for the ceramic class titled Breaking Out. It is a play on one of my other pieces Bug Box (see screen printing or click link). It is about how mankind sometimes likes to keep things they think are pretty on display, such as butterflies, moths, or other things they deem valuable and when manmade things in nature are left alone for long enough, nature will regrow around it and create new life which is also called Rewilding.
